3rd Maritime Festival of Science
From 11 to 13 June 2026, Gdynia Maritime University, as part of its commitment to socially responsible science, will host the 3rd Maritime Festival of Science – a unique event promoting science, research and innovative solutions related to the maritime sector, technology and sustainable development.
Science is not confined to books and laboratories. It can inspire, surprise, and help us better understand the world around us. The Maritime Festival of Science demonstrates that gaining knowledge can be a fascinating adventure for people of all ages.
Two Days of Scientific Inspiration
During the first two days of the festival, participants will have the opportunity to explore the more than 100-year history of Gdynia Maritime University and learn about maritime ceremonial, traditions and culture.
The programme includes a wide range of workshops and lectures devoted to modern technologies, energy, environmental protection, safety at sea and on inland waterways, automation, robotics, logistics, and innovations used in the maritime economy. Participants will also discover how science supports the development of smart ports, modern communication systems, virtual reality, renewable energy sources and advanced energy management systems.
There will also be plenty of practical activities, allowing participants to carry out experiments themselves, become familiar with modern research equipment, and take part in demonstrations prepared by academic staff and students.
On the first day of the event, activities will take place in the University’s Main Building, while on the second day participants will be welcomed at the Faculty of Navigation.
An additional attraction will be the opportunity to visit modern laboratories and learn how specialist simulators used in the education and training of future seafarers operate. Astronomy and navigation enthusiasts will also be able to attend presentations organised at the Antoni Ledóchowski Planetarium
Maritime Picnic – the Grand Finale of the Festival
The 3rd Maritime Festival of Science will culminate in a Maritime Picnic held on the third day of the event on the Faculty of Navigation campus.
The picnic will provide an opportunity for celebration, integration and conversations about science in a more informal atmosphere. Visitors will be able to explore educational stands, demonstrations and presentations by uniformed services, as well as enjoy a wide range of attractions for children, young people and adults. As always, the programme will also include a sea shanty concert, highlighting the maritime character of the Festival.
It will be a unique opportunity for the academic community to meet local residents, tourists, school pupils, and all those with a passion for science. We want to show that science can be fascinating, accessible to everyone, and a source of inspiration, discovery and positive experiences.
