On 5–6 October 2026, the Polish LNG and bioLNG Platform Conference was held in Gdynia, with Dr Maciej Matczak from the GMU Department of Logistics and Transport Systems invited as a guest speaker. This cyclical event itself serves as a meeting place and discussion forum for the domestic gas and biogas sector, where strategic issues as well as regulatory and technical solutions and prevailing market conditions in the production, processing, and distribution of gas are discussed, with a particular focus on liquefied natural gas (LNG).

In his address, Dr Maciej Matczak presented the concept and potential benefits arising from the implementation of the European project DeCoInter – Decarbonisation of the Maritime Sector and its Impact on Green Energy Transition, funded under the Interreg South Baltic Programme 2021–2027, in which Gdynia Maritime University is a partner.

Dr Matczak drew particular attention to the role of alternative fuels, especially bioLNG, in the deployment of decarbonisation solutions across shipping and seaports. He also presented tools and concepts developed under the project, including a digital tool for mapping and prioritising the energy transition in seaports, as well as factsheets for individual green alternative fuels, which are already accessible on the project website (https://bac.pl/decointer/).

The keen interest in the presented topic was evidenced by numerous discussions and questions addressed to the GMU representatives, particularly concerning practical actions undertaken by Baltic ports towards developing their LNG bunkering potential as a marine fuel.
