On 3 June 2026, the traditional meeting between University Leaders and retired GMU staff was held in the University restaurant at Gdynia Maritime University.

The guests were welcomed by the Rector, Professor Adam Weintrit, and Dr Dariusz Barbucha, Deputy Rector for Science. Both thanked the retirees for attending, as well as for their many years of dedicated service and contributions to the development of the University.

The event provided a wonderful opportunity for conversation, shared memories, and recognition of the vital role these individuals played in shaping GMU's history and achievements. University leaders expressed their deep gratitude for the commitment and experience the retired staff passed on to successive generations of students and the wider academic community.

During the meeting, participants were also updated on major recent milestones at the University. These included the announcement of the tender for the construction of the successor to the Dar Młodzieży, the launch of degree programmes at the newly established Faculty of Computer Science (the University's fifth faculty), and upcoming plans for a new student residence.
