University Hosts Pomerania Talent Gala
On 19 June 2026, the T. Meissner Auditorium at Gdynia Maritime University hosted the ‘Pomerania Talent’ [Zdolni z Pomorza] Gala, an event marking the conclusion of another successful year of the strategic initiative. The event was organised by the Pomeranian Teacher Education Centre in Gdańsk.
The gathering brought together students, teachers, and representatives from local government authorities, higher education institutions, and partner entities involved in the project. The gala featured presentations showcasing the activities and milestones achieved by local counties, Pomeranian universities, the Department of Education of the Marshal's Office of the Pomeranian Voivodeship, the Pomeranian Teacher Education Centre, the Pomeranian Teacher Development Centre in Słupsk, and the Pomeranian Pedagogical Library.
On behalf of the hosts, the guests were welcomed by Dr Dariusz Barbucha, Deputy Rector for Science at Gdynia Maritime University. Dr Barbucha also serves as the project manager for the ‘Zdolni z Pomorza – Gdynia Maritime University’ initiative. The Gdynia Maritime University Academic Choir provided a wonderful musical accompaniment to the ceremony.
The programme included an inspiring keynote lecture entitled ‘Education in the Era of AI’, presented by Associate Professor Jan Cudzik from Gdańsk University of Technology. Attendees also had the opportunity to visit exhibition stands highlighting the work of the counties and universities executing the projects, and to network during the reception.
During a segment dedicated to the work of the partner universities, GMU’s academic mentors spoke about their project activities and collaboration with talented youth. The University was represented by Dr Emilia Baszanowska from the Faculty of Marine Engineering and Dr Natalia Pawłowska from the Faculty of Computer Science.
Another key highlight was a panel discussion entitled ‘Zdolni z Pomorza – the Perspective of Project Alumni and Gifted Student Mentors’, where participants shared their experiences in nurturing young talent. The event culminated in the presentation of awards to the winners of the Pomeranian Educational League. Overall, the gala provided an excellent opportunity to review a year of collective work dedicated to supporting gifted youth across the Pomeranian Voivodeship and to showcase the strong cooperation between local governments, universities, and educational institutions.
